SOCIALISING
Social Interaction among Friends and Strangers

Social Spots enable a diverse range of users to interact with each other.  The triangular shape, which can be expanded arbitrarily, makes various group constellations possible.

This means: the spatial and social system is flexible and extendable. Therefore, the Social Spots are well suited for meetings among friends as well as to initiate interaction between strangers and encourage new friendships.

Physical distancing will continue to be part of our everyday life. But Social Spots liberate us from the unpleasant feeling of constantly having to think about keeping the safety distance.

Whether it is a meeting in the park or a place in the city centre, thanks to its different designs, Social Spots are suitable for any location and easy to apply.

See below how well Socialising with Social Spots works.

STREET CONCERTS Social Spots Music Sessions

Cultural activities and events in public space remain a challenging task. In May, events were still prohibited in Vienna but meetings of up to 10 people were allowed when being seated and at the 1,5m distance from each other. Cultural diversity and free artistic expression were sought in vain in the city. It was at that time that we developed the Social Spots Music Session: a place for art in public space that complies with the regulations.  In cooperation with local musicians we used the public space as a concert hall and the Social Spots as a grandstand.

Combining Social Spots with cultural activities supports local artists and promotes cultural diversity in our cities’ public space.

The Social Spots can be easily adapted to the constantly changing regulations. They are infinitely extendable on the one hand and on the other hand the distances between the spots can easily be increased or reduced to adapt the safety distance to local guidelines.

You are interested in reviving the public space in your hometown too? See for yourself below how fantastic Social Spots and culture go together, many more collaborations are possible:

Since the end of May, indoor and outdoor events with up to 100 people are possible again. Starting July 1, events with up to 250 people will be allowed, and from August 1, 500 people. Seating is still required to be at least 1 meter apart from each other. (These regulations apply to Vienna of course)

Even though the restrictions in Vienna have been significantly loosened in the meantime, the Social Spots continue to be an ideal way to ensure the distance in public space and therefore rebuild trust in social interaction and appropriation of public space.

On an international comparison, however, there are still countries that are in complete lockdown. It can be assumed that the restrictions in these countries will last for a long time and that this can significantly reduce the diverse use of public space in the long run.

Especially in these countries, Social Spots have great potential to create safe meeting spots and new places for cultural activities.
